Magnode Solves Manufacturers' Design Issues (June 17, 2004)
Aluminum Extrusion Designs Win Two Awards
TRENTON, OH-January 2003-In developing new products for the marketplace, companies often need superior aluminum extrusion manufacturers to develop unique design solutions to make their products successful. Federal Signal Corporation and Ecofan Airplus both faced that situation last year, and turned to Magnode Corporation of Trenton, Ohio, to solve both situations.
Federal Signal Corporation was developing a two-part assembly, consisting of a light bar and a computer console, for roof systems of law enforcement emergency vehicles. To improve product corrosion resistance, tensile and yield strength, Magnode used aluminum extrusions instead of steel stampings to create the light bar. The light bar used a reduced number of components and greater design flexibility and improved functionality.
Ecofan Airplus needed two aluminum extrusion pieces for a unique residential fan that could be placed on a wood-burning stove to better circulate warm air into a room through convection and radiation heat transfer. Magnode created the aluminum extrusions for the fan that could provide efficient heat transfer capabilities. Because the fan was a very visible in-home product, Magnode was careful to make it aesthetically pleasing as well as safe and designed not to overheat.
Federal Signal's light bar assembly, developed by Dick Hinkle and Mark Butterfield of Magnode Corporation won the grand prize at the 2nd International Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition in 2002. The two-piece extrusion fan assembly for Ecofan Airplus, as submitted by Dean Allen of Caframo Ltd., won the residential category competition.
The Aluminum Extruders Council and the Extrusion Technology for Aluminum Profiles Foundation jointly sponsored this event for Aluminum Profiles Foundation. The competition was established to promote creativity and innovation by showcasing the material advantages of designing with aluminum extrusions.
Magnode Corporation is a fully integrated supplier of aluminum extrusions, committed to unique, economical and timely design manufacturing. Capable of manufacturing intricate components, often with tolerances exceeding standards by as much as 50 percent, Magnode maintains its specialty of designing and manufacturing extraordinary, complex and intricate extrusion parts regardless of size, weight or tolerance requisites.
